• Amazon Biotope Setup

  Thrives in a setup that replicates its native Peruvian environment, utilizing soft sandy substrate and dried leaves (Beech or Oak) to release beneficial tannins.

• Barbel Protection

  Essential to use smooth-edged rocks and a fine, soft substrate to prevent physical damage and secondary infections to their sensitive barbels.

• Social Schooling

  Requires a group of at least 6 to exhibit natural behaviors and reduce stress; being kept in smaller numbers may lead to shyness.

• Foraging Space

  The aquarium layout should provide a balance of driftwood/hiding spots and significant open bottom space for active sifting and foraging.
