Special requirements

• Anemone Association

  Almost always found in association with an anemone, specifically the Bubbletip Sea Anemone (Entacmaea quadricolor), but may host in corals if an anemone is absent.

• Protandrous Hermaphroditism

  This species is a protandrous hermaphrodite; in a pair, the largest fish will become the female, while the smaller remains male.

• Captive-Bred Hardiness

  Captive-bred specimens are more accustomed to home aquarium conditions and are generally hardier than wild-harvested counterparts.

• Egg Guarding

  They are benthic egg layers that deposit eggs on flat surfaces; the pair will aggressively defend the nest from tank mates.
