Special requirements

• Extreme Acidic Blackwater

  Requires soft, acidic conditions (pH as low as 3.5) and rarely thrives in untreated tap water. High susceptibility to parameter swings.

• Soft Sandy Substrate

  Essential for benthophagous sifting. Coarse gravel can damage gills or lead to internal blockages if ingested.

• Pristine Water Quality

  Extremely sensitive to deteriorating water quality; requires 50-70% weekly water changes to prevent Head and Lateral Line Erosion (HLLE).

• Unique Spawning Behavior

  A substrate-spawner that excavates massive pits and covers the brood with a protective layer of leaves, wood, or substrate.
