Special requirements

• Species-Specific Preferred

  One of the most timid Peacocks. Best kept alone or with very peaceful tankmates like Labidochromis caeruleus to ensure they aren't outcompeted for food.

• Sand Substrate

  Essential for benthophagous sifting. Coarse gravel can damage sensitive gill filaments and the enlarged sensory pores on their heads used for hunting.

• Water Quality Maintenance

  Highly susceptible to parameter swings and organic waste. Over-filtration and 30-50% weekly water changes are mandatory.

• Harem or Colony Structure

  Stock 1 male to 4+ females. Unusually for Aulonocara, multiple males can sometimes be maintained together in larger tanks without excessive conflict.
