Special requirements

• Extreme Water Parameters

  Lives in some of the harshest conditions on Earth (Lake Natron). Requires exceptionally high pH and temperatures. pH must never drop below 8.0.

• Unique Nitrogen Cycle

  Excretes waste as urea rather than ammonia—a physiological adaptation to highly alkaline water. This makes biological stability unique in captive systems.

• Oxygenation & Gulping

  Adapted to hypoxic (low oxygen) saline water. Fish may gulp air from the surface as a supplementary respiratory method.

• Species Only Tank

  Due to specialized water requirements (pH up to 10.0 and heat up to 38°C), it should not be kept with any other species.
