Special requirements

• Reef Incompatibility

  Prone to nipping at stony and soft corals (sessile invertebrates) as well as clam mantles; not recommended for reef systems.

• Feeding Frequency

  Has a high metabolism for its size and should be fed at least three times a day to maintain health.

• Acoustic Behavior

  Known to produce an audible 'grunting' sound as a warning signal when approached or feeling threatened.

• Habitat Complexity

  Requires a massive aquarium with significant amounts of live rock to provide both biological filtration and essential hiding places for a fish of this size.
