• Amazon Biotope Simulation

  Appreciates a setup replicating its native environment with a soft, sandy substrate and dried leaves (Beech or Oak) to release beneficial tannins.

• Barbel Maintenance

  Requires smooth-edged decor and substrate; sharp rocks or coarse gravel can cause physical trauma and infections to their sensitive barbels.

• Social Schooling

  While a minimum of 3-4 is noted, they are highly social and thrive best in schools of 6 or more to encourage natural foraging behaviors.

• Aquascape Balance

  Needs a combination of driftwood and rocks for hiding, balanced with significant open sandy areas for swimming and sifting.
