Special requirements
Pelagic Adaptation
Unlike most eartheaters, this species is partially adapted to a pelagic (open water) existence. It possesses a terminal mouth and two series of teeth in the upper jaw for feeding on zooplankton and phytoplankton.
Pristine Water Quality
Extremely susceptible to deteriorating water quality and Head and Lateral Line Erosion (HLLE). Requires a mature, over-filtered system with 50-70% weekly water changes.
Sand Substrate
Though less benthophagous than its congeners, it still browses from the bottom. Fine sand is essential to prevent gill damage and allow natural behavior.
Fine-Grade Diet
Large individuals have small throats and cannot ingest big food items. Provide high-quality fine-grade prepared foods and small live/frozen invertebrates like Daphnia and Artemia.
