Special requirements

• Conspecific Aggression

  Demonstrates territorial aggression towards its own kind and should be housed singly unless in a very large system.

• Subdued Lighting and Caves

  Prefers extensive rockwork caves and somewhat subdued lighting to mimic its natural deep-water reef habitat.

• Unique Orientation Behavior

  Often found swimming with its belly toward the substrate; when under ledges, it may be observed swimming upside down.

• Nesting Behavior

  Males establish nest sites in holes or crevices, exhibiting care behaviors such as guarding and detritus clearing after female egg deposition.
