Special requirements

• Rheophilic Setup

  Unsuitable for standard community tanks. Requires a specialized river-style setup with very high water movement and dissolved oxygen provided by powerheads or a linear flow pump.

• High Temperature

  Requires unusually warm water (26-32 °C) and will suffer in cooler conditions.

• Sand and Pebble Substrate

  Requires a substrate of soft sand mixed with small pebbles. They use the sand for constant benthic sifting to feed, and the pebbles to construct and cover their breeding nests.

• Pristine Water Quality

  Highly intolerant of organic waste and delicate post-import. Requires spotless water and massive weekly water changes of 30-70%.
