Special requirements

• Sand Substrate

  A soft, sandy substrate is absolutely essential for their natural earth-eating behavior. Coarse gravel can cause internal blockages and damage gill filaments.

• Pristine Water Quality

  Extremely susceptible to deteriorating water quality and lateral line erosion. Requires massive weekly water changes (50-70%) and a highly mature biological filter.

• Specialized Feeding

  They possess small throats and cannot properly ingest large food items. Requires 3-4 smaller daily meals of fine-grade sinking foods and small invertebrates.
