Special requirements

• Sand Substrate

  A soft, sandy substrate is absolutely essential for their natural earth-eating behavior. Coarse gravel can damage gill filaments and cause internal blockages.

• Pristine Water Quality

  Extremely susceptible to deteriorating water quality and Head and Lateral Line Erosion (HLLE). Requires a mature aquarium with massive 50-70% weekly water changes.

• Harem Grouping

  Adult males are highly aggressive toward one another. Keep only one male per aquarium alongside a harem of two or more females.

• Small Food Size

  Despite their adult size, they have small throats and cannot ingest large food items. Feed 3-4 small daily meals of fine-grade sinking foods and invertebrates.
