Special requirements

• Social Grouping

  Must be kept in a group of at least 8. Maintaining small numbers leads to excessive bullying of weaker individuals and high stress.

• Stable Alkaline Conditions

  Intolerant to organic pollutants and acidic water. Requires immaculate water quality and a pH above 7.0, ideally with light brackish salts if possible.

• Mucus Feeding (Fry)

  Unique parental behavior where free-swimming fry graze on the body mucus of the parents for the first few days of life.

• Algae Supplementation

  Natural 'grazers' that require a significant portion of vegetable matter/Spirulina in their diet to prevent health issues.
