Special requirements

• Sand Substrate

  Essential for natural sifting behavior. Coarser materials can cause physical injury to gills or lead to internal blockages if swallowed.

• Pristine Water Quality

  Extremely sensitive to nitrate buildup and parameter swings. Requires over-filtration and massive (50-70%) weekly water changes to prevent HLLE.

• Social Grouping

  Must be kept in a group of 5-8 individuals. Smaller numbers often lead to excessive antagonism from dominant fish and high stress levels.

• Small Food Items

  Even as adults, they cannot properly ingest large food particles. Feed multiple small portions of fine-grade sinking foods daily.
