Special requirements

• Sand Substrate

  Essential for benthophagous sifting. Coarse gravel can damage gill filaments or be ingested, causing internal blockages.

• Harem Stocking

  Best kept as a single male with 4-6 females to dissipate courtship aggression and reduce stress on individuals.

• Pristine Water Quality

  Extremely sensitive to waste buildup and parameter swings. Requires over-filtration and consistent 30-50% weekly water changes.

• Species Purity

  Avoid mixing with other Aulonocara species to prevent hybridization. Avoid boisterous Mbuna that may outcompete or stress them.
