Special requirements

• Ontogenetic Salinity Shift

  While juveniles can be kept in freshwater, they must be gradually transitioned to brackish and eventually full saltwater as they mature to maintain optimal health and coloration.

• Vegetable-Heavy Diet

  Naturally consumes large quantities of vegetable matter; requires regular supplementation with dried seaweed, lettuce, and algae-based foods alongside protein sources.

• Aragonite Substrate

  Prefers a substrate consisting of aragonite sand or gravel, which helps maintain the high pH and hardness levels required for the species.

• Vertical Space

  Possesses a distinct diamond-shaped, tall body profile (Fingerfish) that requires significant vertical and horizontal swimming space in a large aquarium.
