Special requirements

  • Cave-Heavy Decor

Unlike many Peacocks, this species has a strong preference for rocky caves and crevices. Large caves are necessary as multiple males may attempt to hold territory within them.

  • Sand Substrate

Mandatory for natural sifting behavior. Gravel can damage sensitive gill filaments and sensory pores.

  • Strict Harem Stocking

One of the more aggressive Aulonocara. Maintain a ratio of 1 male to at least 4-6 females to dissipate courtship and territorial aggression.

  • Water Parameter Stability

Highly susceptible to swings in water chemistry. Requires over-filtration and consistent 30-50% weekly water changes.
