Special requirements

• Dental Maintenance

  Possesses four oral crushing plates that grow continuously; requires a regular diet of hard-shelled mollusks and snails to naturally wear them down.

• Brackish Salinity

  Requires brackish water conditions for long-term health, with a recommended specific gravity range (typically 1.010 to 1.015) as they mature.

• Skin Sensitivity

  Lacks scales and has leathery skin containing neurotoxins; this makes them highly sensitive to water quality and certain medications.

• Strict Portion Control

  Propensity to overeat to a dangerous degree; must not be overfed as they can consume enough to cause physical harm or death.
