Special requirements

• Massive Volume & Filtration

  Due to their size and gregarious nature, only very large aquaria (minimum 6ft length) are suitable. They are intolerant of organic pollutants and require weekly 25-50% water changes.

• Salinity Flexibility

  A truly euryhaline species that thrives in both freshwater and brackish setups, though acidic conditions must be strictly avoided.

• Mucus Feeding Behavior

  Unique parental care where free-swimming fry graze on the parents' body mucus for the first few days of life.

• Social Hierarchy Management

  Must be kept in a group of 8 or more to establish a healthy dominance hierarchy; smaller groups often result in excessive bullying of weaker individuals.
