Special requirements

• Sand Substrate

  Essential for benthophagous 'earth-eating' behavior. Sifts substrate through gills to find food; gravel can cause physical injury or blockages.

• Pristine Water Quality

  Highly susceptible to deteriorating water quality and Head and Lateral Line Erosion (HLLE). Requires massive weekly water changes (50-70%) and over-filtration.

• Social Dynamics

  Must be kept in a group of 5-8 individuals to establish a stable hierarchy. Smaller numbers often lead to excessive stress or aggression.
