Sand Substrate
A soft, sandy substrate is absolutely essential for their natural earth-eating behavior. Coarse gravel can damage gill filaments and cause internal blockages.
Pristine Water Quality
Extremely susceptible to deteriorating water quality and Head and Lateral Line Erosion (HLLE). Requires an over-filtered, mature aquarium with massive 50-70% weekly water changes.
Small Food Size
Despite their adult size, they have small throats and cannot properly ingest large food items. Feed 3-4 small daily meals of fine-grade sinking foods and invertebrates.
