Special requirements

• Sand Sifting Behavior

  Primarily benthophagous; they take mouthfuls of substrate and sift it through their gills. A soft, sandy substrate is essential to prevent injury to their gill filaments.

• Gregarious Nature

  Outside of spawning, they are quite social. For the best display of natural behavior, they should be maintained in groups of 8 or more individuals.

• Stable Water Quality

  Native to pristine environments and highly sensitive to poor water quality. Should only be introduced to well-established, biologically mature aquaria.
