Special requirements

• Massive Space

  The largest African cichlid. Suitable only for public aquaria or massive custom installations; a single breeding pair commands roughly 5 square meters of territory.

• Strict Water Quality

  Requires pristine conditions. Weekly water changes of 50% are mandatory to handle the bioload and maintain the stability of Rift Lake parameters.

• Dietary Transition

  Juveniles are omnivorous but become strictly carnivorous (fish-eaters) as they grow. High-quality meaty foods like prawns and earthworms are preferred.

• Conspecific Aggression

  Juveniles are peaceful together, but mature adults become extremely aggressive toward each other. Usually only a single individual or a bonded pair can be kept.
