• Barbel Protection

  Requires a smooth sand or fine gravel substrate to prevent physical trauma and secondary infections to their sensitive barbels.

• Lighting and Cover

  Prefers a well-planted aquarium with plenty of hiding places to provide relief from bright aquarium lighting.

• Social Schooling

  A highly social species that must be kept in a group of six or more to ensure proper health and reduce stress.

• Breeding Management

  To successfully rear fry, a separate breeding tank is recommended as adults may consume their own eggs or young.
