Special requirements

• Harem Social Structure

  Thrives best in a group consisting of one male and several females (up to ten); in such groups, a 125-gallon tank is recommended to accommodate the activity.

• Protogynous Hermaphroditism

  If the dominant male dies, the largest female in the group will often morph into a male to take its place.

• High-Frequency Feeding

  As active planktivores, they require small quantities of high-quality food (mysis, enriched brine shrimp, or flakes) offered multiple times throughout the day.

• Refugium Integration

  An attached refugium for cultivating copepods and amphipods is highly beneficial to provide a steady, natural food supply.
