Special requirements

• Salinity Versatility

  Possesses the unique ability to thrive in freshwater, brackish, or full saltwater environments; however, gradual acclimation is required when moving between different salt levels.

• High Filtration Needs

  Due to a very hearty appetite and resulting waste production, a robust filtration system is necessary to maintain water quality.

• Dense Vegetation

  Prefers an aquarium densely planted with hardy species like Java Fern, Sagittaria, and Anubias to provide security and natural grazing surfaces.

• Livebearing Management

  As livebearers, they produce free-swimming young every 60-70 days; floating plants or a dedicated breeding tank are recommended to prevent adults from preying on the fry.
