Special requirements

• Extreme Spawning Aggression

  Downright violent when breeding. Will attack fish several times its size and even the owner's fingers. Best maintained in a species-only tank.

• Cave Availability

  Requires plenty of hiding places and caves (clay pots/rocks) to act as potential spawning sites and provide cover.

• Digging/Uprooting Behavior

  Avid diggers that will frequently uproot plants. Use robust species or those that can be anchored to decor if plants are desired.

• Prolific Breeding Warning

  Incredibly easy to breed, but fry are difficult to rehome due to high productivity and low commercial value.
