Special requirements

• Extreme Acidic Soft Water

  Requires very soft, acidic conditions (pH as low as 4.0). Success in egg development often requires zero detectable hardness and the use of RO water.

• Benthic Detritivore Diet

  Feeds primarily on organic detritus and plant material. Diet must include high-quality Spirulina-based foods supplemented with small live/frozen invertebrates.

• Monogamous Cave Spawning

  Secretive cave spawners. The female displays by bending into a 'U' shape to show her violet belly. She handles internal brood care while the male patrols the perimeter.

• Blackwater Setup

  Thrives in dim lighting with heavy leaf litter and driftwood. Tannins are highly beneficial for simulating their native rainforest stream habitats.
