Special requirements
Polygamous Harem Potential
While a pair works, they are naturally polygamous. In larger tanks, one male can be kept with several females, provided there are enough caves for each female to establish a territory.
Leaf Litter Utilization
Dried leaf litter (Oak, Beech, or Ketapang) is highly recommended to provide tannins and support microbe colonies that serve as a secondary food source for fry.
Cave Spawning Defense
Secretive cave spawners. The female takes full responsibility for the eggs and fry and may become hyper-aggressive towards the male in confined spaces.
Dither Fish Integration
Benefit from 'dither fish' like Nannostomus spp. to reduce shyness and signal a lack of predators in the environment.
