• Cave-Centric Aquascape

  Displays a strong preference for natural caves over open sand. Rockwork should be designed to provide multiple shaded retreats.

• Fine Sand Substrate

  Essential for 'earth-eating' behavior. Sifts sand through gills to find food; gravel can cause gill damage or internal blockages.

• Strict Harem Stocking

  Best kept in a ratio of 1 male to 4-6 females to manage the male's vigorous courtship and protect individual females from harassment.

• Water Parameter Stability

  Highly sensitive to organic waste and pH swings. Requires over-filtration and consistent 30-50% weekly water changes.
