Special requirements

• Sand Substrate

  Essential for benthophagous 'earth-eating' behavior. Coarse materials like gravel can damage sensitive gill filaments or cause internal blockages if ingested.

• Pristine Water Quality

  Highly susceptible to deteriorating water quality and HLLE (Head and Lateral Line Erosion). Requires massive weekly water changes (50-70%) and over-filtration.

• Social Grouping

  Must be kept in a group of 5-8 individuals to establish a stable dominance hierarchy and prevent excessive bullying of weaker specimens.

• Fine-Grade Diet

  Even as adults, they cannot properly ingest large food items. Feed multiple small portions of fine-grade sinking foods daily to allow for natural browsing.
