Special requirements

• Strict Water Quality

  Extremely susceptible to deteriorating water quality. Large water changes (over 15%) should be avoided; instead, perform small, regular 10-15% weekly changes in a mature, lightly-stocked aquarium.

• Sand and Leaf Litter

  Requires a soft sandy substrate and dried leaf litter. These provide essential security, spawning sites, and tannins while facilitating the growth of beneficial microbes for fry to feed on.

• Specific Feeding

  Primarily feeds on small benthic invertebrates. Requires small live or frozen foods like chironomid larvae and Artemia; wild specimens may initially refuse dry foods.
