Special requirements

• Massive Swimming Space

  An open-water predator that requires a minimum 6-foot tank (180 cm) to accommodate its size and active hunting nature.

• Expert Level Filtration

  As a large carnivore, it produces significant waste. High-efficiency filtration and large volume water changes are mandatory.

• Harem Stocking

  Best kept as a single male with several females. Males are highly aggressive during courtship and can harm females if not kept in a large enough group.

• Specific Mouth Adaptation

  Possesses a unique beak-like mouth that can expand in four directions to swallow prey up to 4 inches long. Avoid tankmates small enough to be eaten.
