Special requirements

• Strict Blackwater Conditions

  Requires highly acidic (pH 4.0-6.0), extremely soft water with negligible carbonate hardness. A reverse osmosis (RO) unit is often necessary to achieve these conditions.

• Mature Aquarium

  Highly sensitive to fluctuating organic wastes and must never be introduced to a biologically immature aquarium.

• Breeding Aggression

  Females are primarily responsible for brood care and can become hyper-aggressive. In smaller aquariums, the male may need to be removed for his own safety.
