Special requirements

• Extreme Acidic Conditions

  Requires very soft, acidic water (pH 4.0-6.0) with negligible carbonate hardness. An RO (Reverse Osmosis) unit is practically essential for long-term health and breeding.

• Fry Sensitivity

  Fry are highly sensitive to changes in water chemistry. Successful rearing requires feeding small, frequent meals and performing very small, regular water changes rather than large ones.

• Intraspecific Aggression

  Females can become hyper-aggressive when guarding eggs or fry. In smaller aquaria, the male may need to be removed for his own safety post-spawning.
