Special requirements
Leaf Litter Environment
Thrives in setups with dried leaf litter (Beech, Oak, or Ketapang). Decomposition provides beneficial tannins and supports microbe colonies that serve as secondary fry food.
Low-Impact Maintenance
Sensitive to large environmental shifts. Prefers consistent, small weekly water changes (10-15%) rather than large ones.
Spawning Cave Defense
A substrate spawner that utilizes crevices. The female is the primary guardian and can become hyper-aggressive in smaller tanks, necessitating the removal of the male.
Blackwater Acclimation
Wild populations are often found in tea-colored water and may require extremely acidic conditions (pH 3.0–4.0) to trigger successful breeding.
