Special requirements

• Non-Digging Nature

  Unique among many cichlids, this species does not dig up the substrate, making it an ideal choice for high-end planted aquaria.

• Monogamous Substrate Spawning

  Forms strong pair bonds and lays eggs on flat rocks or broad leaves. Both parents participate in brood care, including moving fry between pre-excavated pits.

• Gregarious Social Structure

  Best maintained in a small group. While territorial during spawning, they are otherwise shy and benefit from the presence of dither fish to feel secure.
